ACHIEVERS 2009 - The year 2009 was a period of consolidation for Indian sport. There were quite a few success stories in different disciplines, some expected like in cricket, chess, billiards and golf, and others unexpected like in Formula One, football and volleyball. The 'men in blue' flannels failed to retain the T20 World Cup but the Test squad achieved the prestigious distinction by being crowned No 1 team in the ICC world rankings. There were mixed results in other disciplines but there was much to cheer as India ascended the podium with increasing regularity. Here are some of the best Indian success stories of 2009.
